Description
Whenever I visit the Big Island of Hawai'i, I have to find this tree and photograph it. It stands off the main road leading from North Kona to Waikoloa. The first time I saw this tree it was almost dusk and the light had a dramatic effect on the lone tree surrounded by lava rock, tall straw-like grasses, and nothing else as far as the eyes can see. The Big Island is full of such dramatic landscapes - some lush and green; others black barren lava rock contrasted with vivid grasses or cacti. Between the towns and villages, there are miles and miles of uninhabited lands and of course, many secluded beaches to explore. This is just one of my favorite spots.
